Accessibility Statement
Last updated 19 September 2026 — working statement, not a certified audit result
Note: Wendwell is not itself a public sector body, so the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018 don't formally apply to us. We publish this statement anyway because we build for organisations that do, and residents using this site deserve the same honesty about accessibility either way.
Our aim
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. This site should work with keyboard-only navigation and screen readers, and should be usable at larger text sizes and with reduced motion.
What we've actually done
These are specific, real changes made to this codebase — not a generic claim:
- Every form field has a properly associated label, not just placeholder text.
- Headings follow a single logical order on every page (one h1, nested h2/h3 below it) rather than being picked for visual size.
- Dynamic content — search results, error messages, form success/failure — is announced to screen readers via live regions as it appears, without a page reload.
- The "before you go" dialog shown before leaving to a provider's site traps keyboard focus while open, returns focus to the button that opened it on close, and closes on Escape.
- Decorative elements (the logo mark) are hidden from screen readers so they don't add noise.
What we haven't done yet
In the interest of not overstating this:
- No formal third-party accessibility audit has been carried out.
- We haven't yet tested this site with real users of assistive technology — the work above is a careful manual review against WCAG criteria, not user testing.
- Every course links out to a training provider's own website to apply — we have no control over the accessibility of those external sites.
Reporting a problem
If you find something on this site that's hard to use with a keyboard, a screen reader, or any other assistive technology, tell us — this is genuinely useful information, not a formality.
